You don’t have to be familiar with Marie Kondo to feel the urge to declutter your home.

If you’re finding it challenging to stay organized and on task because there’s too much stuff around you, it’s time to clean up. Decluttering will also help you grow. When you sort through your things, you’ll realize that some items you’re holding onto don’t fit your current tastes anymore.

Besides, you might even make some money by selling stuff you have lying around. For example, you can sell old electronics, or if you don’t mind a bit of travel, you can pawn used gadgets for some cash. That being said, let’s talk more about selling used electronics, plus other ways to get rid of old devices.

    How to Sell Old Electronics

You have several options for selling used electronics. First, you can sell them directly to friends or relatives looking for inexpensive, used products.

Another option is to look for companies that buy old gadgets and other electronics. Don’t worry. There are legit businesses that do this to use electronic parts or resell devices to their customers.

For your part, you only need to answer some questions about the value of items you’re trying to sell or trade-in. After printing a shipping label, you can then send off these electronics to your chosen trade-in website. You’ll then receive a check, gift card, or a similar form of compensation after the site verifies the condition of the items you’ve sent.

    Recycling Electronics

If you don’t want to sell your old devices, consider taking them to a recycler. By recycling electronics, you’ll finally clear out your junk drawer and help reduce e-waste.

Remember, though, that some recyclers export old products and dump them on developing countries. That’s why it’s essential to look for one who does it responsibly, either by reusing or refurbishing old electronics.

Depending on where you live, you can check if a recycling company operates sustainably by looking at its affiliations and browsing their websites. For European sites, see if they mention WEEE regulations, or if you’re visiting US websites, you can peruse their waste management policies.

    Be Charitable

Recycling electronics is the best option for devices that don’t work anymore. For used gadgets that still work, you may want to donate them to a charity or nonprofit if selling them doesn’t feel right for you.

Start by checking recreation centers or local organizations in your area. If they accept old electronics, it’s a good idea to get a receipt so you can get a tax deduction.

You can also donate to tech firms. For instance, HP will accept ink cartridges and printer parts. Best Buy will also take any electronic device even if you didn’t buy it from their store.

    Don’t Trash Your Tech

Selling old electronics is an excellent way to declutter your home, but if the items you want to dispose of no longer work, you can take them to a recycler. Another option is to donate used electronics, and if you do it right, you might even get a deduction on your taxes next year.
