    Ingredients infusion to make Ponzu sauce & BBQ chilli sauce

    Ponzu is a sauce centered on citrus used as a casserole in Japanese cuisine and is a finger-licking modified version of soya sauce. It consists of:

    • Rice vinegar
    • Bonito fish flakes
    • Seaweed
    • Soya sauce
    • Sugar or mirin
    • Dashi

     

    Making
     It contains a mixture of sudachi, yuzu, and kabosu. After the liquid is cooled and strained, these Japanese citrus fruits are imbued with it, to give it an essence of Rutaceaey.

    What does a ponzu sauce taste like?
    The taste is between a grapefruit and an orange mandarin; malty, but very fragrant. The difference here is, that the Ponzu sauce provides soy taste and balance, and this sauce tastes on a big scale like soy sauce but has a citrus kick. It has a very unique zest that covers the continuum of flavors; at once it can be tangy, bitter, and sweetened. The diversity in its taste is its beauty and attraction.

    How is a Ponzu sauce used?
    Ponzu sauce can be used as a dumpling gravy, drizzled over your favorite Asian cuisine, used as a vinaigrette, or used as a sauce for stir-fry meat and veggies. In the last few minutes of cooking, a few squirts of ponzu will punch up the flavors in a stew or a stir-fry sauce. We love the slight citrus note that ponzu sauce adds to a cubed steak braising liquid. Ponzu sauce works quite well in European and Australian style as well, you can use it the same way you ‘d use BBQ Chilli sauce.

    Preservation of the sauce
    In reality, the expiration for ponzu sauce is a long time, because its shelf life is comparable to soy sauce that can last for up to 3 years. But you probably shouldn’t use it for too long, because by then the flavor would eventually fade. Therefore, it is safe to use it for homemade sauce within a month or two. If the storage jars are sterilized by boiling them for 10 to 15 minutes, the ponzu sauce or yuzu sauce can be maintained around 2 months. Set the vessels on warm hand towels to completely dry after boiling.

    Advert ponzu sauce is a minimal source of nutrients except for sodium needed in very small amounts by your body. That said, it has certain major benefits because it can help you manage or avoid disorders such as:

    A consumption of ponzu sauce may give you a tiny dose of sugar, but it truly can’t be enough to raise the chances of having gestational diabetes considerably.

     

    Ponzu sauce does not contain any fat, but only has a slight amount of sugar for every main course, indicating it is an effectual opportunity to boost flavor and aroma to your food, without introducing more carbs as well.

    Ponzu sauce does not raise the cholesterol since it does not contain any of the saturated fat which results in increased insulin sensitivity. It is a valuable component of a nutrition poor in antioxidants.
