How to Recover from Unrequited Love

We’ve all experienced this at one point or another, this stupid thing called unrequited love. We meet someone, spend some time with them during school or after work, then think that they could be too good to be true, you get to know them, you spend more time with them and you go home thinking, “Yup, I’ve fallen for him/her.”

Then, in the middle of all the slow motion scenes and doves flying around, reality comes smashing back to you. You profess your love to the girl of your dreams and turns out that it was all just casual to her. You get asked by your soon-to-be boyfriend about which engagement ring to get for his girlfriend working overseas. Then the heart, once fluctuated with feelings of infatuation and joy, turns murky and embarrassed. And as hard as it may sound, the only way out of this pain is upwards. andoverleader

Some people are able to bounce back from this, and to those people, good for you. I wish I had your armour. But for those like me who find the path to recovery a bit rockier, here are some tips you might want to hear.

Understand that it’s never going to happen

Some people will never get over their crush because they can’t accept that nothing bigger will come out of their current relationship. You may think that all you have to do is wait it out and maybe this person will change their mind or something will happen to them that will lead them to your path. While there’s no reason why these events should be ruled out, actively waiting for these to happen is unhealthy and unproductive. Don’t let your life keep still for anyone who might not be investing the same amount of time and emotions for you.

This is one bandage that needs to be ripped out the skin in order for the real healing process to begin. Pain needs to be felt so you can restart from square one.

Go through the necessary steps necessary for YOU

We’re all different sentient beings that resonate to different things. One of the reasons why crystal healing is never scientifically accepted is because it’s something you can’t quantify or measure accurately; each crystal has its own different level of vibration that comes across to each person differently. The same thing can be applied to healing a broken heart.

People respond to different methods of letting go and if your method is to get a makeover or to partake in sports as a way to release the tension or to let go of any attachments through physical manifestations, then so be it. Some people, like me, reverted to listening to music and using forms of art as a medium to release all the thoughts and sadness away, which proved to be quite effective. Just remember to do things that are healthy, won’t hurt anyone else and will lead only to positive results.

“Focus on a love that is constant.” – Karylle

It’s never a bad idea to run to family and friends for refuge, even when it comes to problems that may seem small or pathetic to you. Seek love and comfort from those who can genuinely give them to you and you’ll feel a huge weight lift from your shoulders. After the majority of the pain has subsided and have become a thing of the past, you’ll be thankful and relieved to have spent most of the storm close to those who have real love for you and your welfare.

Once you focus on the positive and away from what’s not, soon enough you’ll attract the same kinds of energies and be able to have exactly what’s needed in your life.
