    Active Seniors: 5 Great Pieces of Advice for Aging Individuals

    Do you have a loved one who is getting up there in age? Are you worried about their activity level and want to make sure that they are staying active?

    We’ve compiled a few tips for you so that you can encourage your loved ones to be more active seniors by staying physical!

    Keep reading for these great tips for staying active.

    1. Physical Therapy

    Since many older individuals may suffer from physical pain like joint pain or arthritis. If that’s the case, senior exercises are always a helpful way to keep the pain from getting worse while also helping them stay active!

    In-home physical therapy for seniors is a great way to convince your loved ones to stay active! They can get help for their pain and stay active with exercises without ever leaving their home. You also will have someone going into their home to check on them with this version of active senior care.

    2. Practice Balance Activities

    Even if you are not trying to convince an older individual that you love to run 5 miles at a time (while this can be dangerous for some), you should discuss practicing balance activities with them.

    These may include gentle yoga or simply standing up from a sitting position several times in a row. They can also try to stand on one foot for a few seconds on each side to practice their balance.

    3. Take a Stroll

    Again, staying active as a senior does not mean running a marathon. Taking a longer stroll through the park in the early morning or late evening to avoid some of the hotter hours of the day is a great form of exercise.

    Not only is this a form of physical exercise, but being in nature can also improve the health and wellbeing of the individual. They will also be getting fresh air and sunshine for a few hours a day this way!

    To mix it up a bit, the route can also change for them. One day you may want to take them through the park and the next you could go on a stroll around the block.

    4. Use Stairs

    An easy way to add a physical activity for seniors into their lifestyle is by convincing them to take the stairs whenever possible. If they are going to an appointment on the second floor, have them walk up the flight of stairs to get their heart rate going for a few minutes.

    5. Park at the Far End of the Parking Lot

    Another easy way to be more active as a senior is to park further away from the store entrance. Instead of getting the first spot that you see, convince your loved one to park at the end of the parking lot so they have to walk to the store.
